Things To Do at Santee Lakes

Posted on 01 May, 2018

Miles of hiking trails, sunshine, wide-open space. At Weston, you’re surrounded by opportunities to get outside and experience nature, all while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In addition to Weston’s exclusive resort-inspired amenities and parks, residents at Weston are also conveniently close to Santee Lakes. The lake preserve located just east of Weston stretches across more than 190 acres, with a number of fun activities to explore.

Looking to take your kids on their first overnight camping trip, without going too far from home? Consider Santee Lakes as testing grounds for whether everyone’s ready for remote camping. Santee Lakes are equipped with both waterfront campgrounds and cabins.

The campgrounds include access to: Two pools and a jacuzzi, a clubhouse for parties and their day-use amenities. Regular campers who own an RV can park in the grounds’ covered storage spaces.

You don’t need a state fishing license here! Fish off the shore and reel in channel catfish, largemouth bass and rainbow trout. During opening seasons, Santee Lakes hosts contests for catching the top five largest fish of the day.

Day-use fishers have lake access during park hours while overnight campers may fish anytime from sunrise to sunset. See their full fishing rules for night-time fishing options and more information.

Sit back and relax as your kids enjoy seven playgrounds within the lakes’ preserve, including a tot lot for younger kiddos. On warmer days you can also visit their Sprayground splash pad, open during park hours with purchase of a wristband. A playground for children with disabilities is also available, between Lakes Three and Four.

Riding Around
Personal watercrafts are not permitted; however, you can rent kayaks, canoes and four-seat pedal boats by the half or full hour onsite at the Santee Lakes General Store.

If you’d like to stay on land, you can cruise around the lake on rental bikes including surrey options. Or bring your own wheels!

All this and more at the Santee Lakes preserve is minutes from Weston. Be sure to check the Santee Lakes calendar for upcoming events as well!
