If you’re looking for fun outdoor events in Santee this spring, you’re in luck. In the coming weeks you can chow down on funnel cakes at a street fair, watch dogs show off their agility skills at a celebration of man’s best friend and dance your heart out as the sun begins to fade at a concert in the park. Take advantage of the beautiful weather and hit up these great events for some outdoor springtime entertainment near Weston.
San Diego River Days
Learn about the beautiful flora and fauna of San Diego County during San Diego River Days at the Santee Historical Society and Museum on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants of all ages can help plant a monarch butterfly garden, meet a wild animal, tour the historic Santee Barn, and hear about gardening, composting and sustainable living. Admission is free.
Santee Street Fair and Craft Beer Festival
With carnival rides, more than 300 food and vendor booths, and beer samples from breweries across the region, the 11th annual Santee Street Fair and Craft Beer Festival has something for everyone. More than 30,000 people are expected to converge on downtown Santee at Town Center Parkway and Riverview Parkway for this free event. This year features a new “Community Corner” with public education displays from the Santee Fire Department, the Santee Sheriff’s Station and the Santee School District.
Your four-legged family member wants to have a little fun, too! Bring the whole family to Fido Fest at Town Center Community Park East on Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a day of tail-wagging fun. Check out flyball demonstrations, talk to exhibitors about new pet products, or pick up some great giveaways during this free, family- and dog-friendly event.
Santee Summer Concert Series
The free Santee Summer Concert Series kicks off June 13 at Town Center Community Park East with Elvis Presley tribute band James Kruk and the Big Boss Men. If that show leaves you “all shook up,” be sure to come back at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday through August 22 (except July 4) for more, great live music.
Santee Drive-In Theatre
While the Santee Drive-In Theatre is open year-round, spring is the perfect time to enjoy a movie in the great outdoors. This classic drive-in movie theater is open seven days a week and features new releases as well as a well-stocked snack bar. Entry fees are $9 for teens and adults (13+) and $4 for children 5–12; there’s no charge for children 4 and under. Tip: Bring your own radio so you don’t have to worry about draining your car’s battery.
