Ah, spring break! A time for adventure, sunshine and relaxing poolside. As much as you might want to travel to an exotic destination, no one looks forward to those long flights and rowdy crowds. The answer? Take a staycation!
For Weston residents, there is no shortage of great destinations within just a few miles. Here are a few of our favorite nearby getaways.
If your family enjoys camping, hiking, fishing or biking, there are nearly endless options for day trips and overnight excursions. In fact, the toughest part about getting outdoors will be deciding which park to visit. Cuyamaca Ranch State Park features 100 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Choose from two family campgrounds, Paso Picacho or Green Valley, and if you prefer a more back-country experience, opt to hike or ride horseback in one of two environmental camps, Granite Springs and Arroyo Seco.
With nearly 680,000 acres of designated forestland spanning San Bernardino and Riverside counties, the San Bernardino National Forest is another great outdoor destination for Weston residents. In addition to multiple campgrounds, picnic areas and hiking trails, the national forest’s off-highway system is considered one of the best in Southern California for ATVs and four-wheel drive vehicles.
Is nature photography more your thing? Then head to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, known for its wide variety of native wildflowers. Look for a variety of blooms along Highway S-2 near mile marker 30, 42 and 52.
After all that outdoor activity, you may be ready for a restful retreat. L’Auberge Del Mar, just 20 minutes from San Diego, overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Take in the sweeping coastal views from one of this luxury destination’s 121 rooms, lounge in a poolside cabana, stargaze fireside or stroll through the 5.2 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds.
Or hop on a ferry or water taxi and escape to Coronado Island for a day or overnight trip to the spa. Try out a beach yoga class at the iconic Hotel del Coronado, or a wellness weekend itinerary at the Coronado Island Marriott™ Resort & Spa. Then, relax on the island’s white sand beaches, rated among the top 10 beaches in the country.
Add some culture to your staycation with a visit to Temecula. Temecula’s free monthly Art Off The Walls events in Old Town Temecula highlight art, photography and live music by local artists. Try your artistic skills with an Art & Vino class, or just stroll the wooden boardwalks to bring home a special treasure.
The new ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station along the San Diego waterfront features rotating art installations, boutiques, galleries and culinary venues to meet any taste. A free Friday Night Liberty art walk takes place on the first Friday of every month.
