Ready to get away for the day? Whether you’re looking to start your trip at sunrise or to take it slowly into the evening, here are just a few day trip destinations in Southern California conveniently close to Weston’s master-planned community in Santee.
Explore Laguna Mountains
Head to San Diego County’s eastern ridge and trek over to the Laguna Mountains for a variety of recreation options. Although the alpine region stretches across over 20 miles, you don’t have to travel too far to take in incredible sights. Get acquainted with the scenery on a relatively flat, half-mile walk to Kwaaymii Point. On clearer days from Kwaaymii Point, you’ll be able to see Mount San Jacinto to the north and Anza-Borrego Desert to the east.
If you’re ready for an adventure, stop at the 27.3-mile marker off Sunrise Highway to begin your ascent up Garnet Peak. This spot is particularly popular with mountain bikers along with descending the alpine meadow to the oak forest of Noble Canyon.
Occasionally this area receives winter precipitation – so San Diego does get snow!
Here We Go LEGO®
If you have a kiddo at home with their own burgeoning lego collection or someone who just really loved the Lego movie, treat them to an afternoon at LEGOLAND California in Carlsbad. Explore the mini lands featuring a variety of lego-made scenes from Star Wars and some of Southern California’s most iconic landmarks like Griffith Park Observatory and the Hollywood Bowl. In the park’s Imagination Zone, kids have their own opportunities to build robots, race cars and more!
When everyone’s ready for a little shade, check out the SEA LIFE® aquarium or 4D Lego Movie. And yes, the aquarium creatures are indeed real animals.
Whisk Away to SoCal’s Wine Country
Take a tour through Temecula Valley Wine Country just north of San Diego County. Sip and sample while enjoying inspiring views across over 40 wineries. Along with award-winning bottles, many Californians savor the aerial vistas during a sunrise hot-air balloon ride over the lush green vineyards.
These are just a few incredible destinations near Weston’s active, outdoor community. Plus with Santee Boulders, Mission Trails and more just outside your door at Weston, you always have plenty of places to explore. For the latest Weston news and community updates, join our Interest List.
