Are your kids counting down the days until spring break? Keep their minds and bodies busy by lining up some fun activities for them. Whether your child is a fan of the mountains or a lover of the ocean, there are plenty of ways you can keep them active and entertained near Weston. Here are a few ideas for fun spring break activities close to Santee.
Go indoor rock climbing.
Let your kids climb the walls — literally — at Mesa Rim Climbing Center – Mission Valley. Located about 15 miles from Weston, Mesa Rim Climbing Center offers options for climbers of all levels, from first-timers to seasoned veterans. Single-day passes are available for $15 for kids under 11 or $21 for kids 11–17. You also can sign up students in kindergarten through eighth grade for Camp Mesa Rim for all-week fun.
Take a hike.
Got some hikers in the family? Lace up those hiking boots and hit the trails at Mission Trails Regional Park. The park offers a day camp for students in second through sixth grades during the San Diego Unified School District’s spring break. Your kids will burn off some energy as they connect with nature at the popular park, which is less than 5 miles from Weston. With almost 65 miles of trails to explore, you could visit the park every day during spring break and still not see it all. If your kids need a break, stop by the Visitor and Interpretive Center to learn about the history and features of the park.
Try indoor skydiving.
What kid doesn’t dream of flying? The younger thrill-seekers in your family will have a blast at iFLY, San Diego’s first indoor skydiving facility. Don’t worry — participants don’t actually jump out of an airplane. Your kids will step inside a wind tunnel with the help of an experienced instructor and “fly” on controlled air. Prices for first-time flyers start at $49.95 during specific weekdays and include two flights, flight gear rental, pre-flight training and one-on-one flight instruction. Located about 15 miles from Weston, iFly also offers special group rates, so your kids can invite their friends!
Get out on the water.
Being close to the water is one of the many perks of living at Weston, so take advantage of it this spring break! About 20 miles from Weston, Aqua Adventures offers rentals and lessons for a variety of water sports. Your kids can learn to kayak or try stand-up paddleboarding for just $55. Want to give them an experience that’s both active and educational? Sign them up for the Mission Bay Wildlife Tour and History Lesson, where they’ll learn about the natural history of the area while soaking up the sun on a kayak or paddleboard – no experience necessary!
